1. Obligatory, topic-specific words:

a domestic violence (n) -  household, stay-at-home
A violent behaviour within a family or home.
  • Nowadays, there are more and more examples of domestic violence in the USA.
  • Domestic violence is very often disguised in the society even among best friends.
an abuser (n) - offender, wrongdoer, victimizer
A person who uses something for a bad purpose.
abusive (adj) - rude, insulting /ɪnˈsʌltɪŋ/, offensive
Extremely offensive.
  • Abusers are often unveiled /ʌnˈveɪld/ when their victims starts to talk about the problem.
  • He had abusive parents so now he uses very abusive language - they taught him nothing!
a bruise /bruːz/ (n) - blemish, wound
An injury of our body which comes as an area of different colour skin.
  • Teddy, look, you've got a bruise on you knee! What happened?
  • Domestic violence victims always hide their bruises on face by covering it with a foundation.
 

to stalk /stɔːk/ (v) - follow, ambush
To harras someone who doesn't want this attention.
  • She accused him of stalking her but the judge wasn't convinced.
  • Young girls are so fascinated with their idols that they often stalk them via Facebook.

battered (adj) - hurt, damaged, suffering
Injured by repeated hits.
  • A battered woman would never confess her tragedy, she'd be too ashamed.
  • After participating a runmageddon I was so battered that I could merely recognise myself in the mirror.

savagely /ˈsævɪʤli/ - ruthlessly, cruelly
headfirst - carelessly, recklessly
a glove compartment - a closed area in a car where you are supposed to keep your gloves but unfortunately you keep there everything except gloves :)
a nightgown - nightdress for a woman
a chokehold A tight grip round a person’s neck, used to restrain them by restricting their breathing.
to fade - vanish, dim 
to proceed - go ahead, go on, carry on 
grisly - frightening, fearsome 
to thrive /θraɪv/ - mushroom, prospect, grow
to recast - change, develop
