1. Obligatory, topic specific words:

to retouch - improve, modify
Improve, by making slight addtions.
  • When I look at all of these pics on the Instagram I just cannot find any retouched ones.
  • People believe that those women in newspapers are impeccable, but it's only and effect created by programs aimed at retouching photos.

     
to short-change - 
To treat unfairly or dishonestly, esp by giving less than is deserved or expected.
  • We short-change ourselves when we try to be someone else.
  • Taking into consideration all of these pro-ana sites I have to say that girls are used to short-change themselves because they think that they're not beautiful.
self reflection - 
Serious thoughts about one's character and actions.
  • He needs more self-reflection to see how stupid he is.
  • A very important feature is self-reflection so that we can correct our behaviour and make changes.
to fidget /ˈfɪʤɪt/ -  
Make small movements, especially of the hands and feet, through nervousness or impatience. 
  • I was always nervous before my oral exams and I used to fidget waiting my turn.
  • Little children have in common the fact that they fidget all the time. 
solitude - loneliness, isolation
The state of being alone. 
  • These days people feel more solitude because of the era of cellphones and computers.
  • A solitude is often felt when there is nobody to care about.

to past-forward - move speedily
grief - sadness, sorrow
sip - drink something by taking small mouthfuls
bedrock - base, underpinning
vulnerable - sensitive, exposed, defenseless
gratifying - satisfying, pleasing
underlying (adj) - basic, fundamental
fragile - breakable, delicate, weak
virtual - fundamental, basic
